In the event of a major utility failure, notify Facilities Services at 209-228-7877 during working hours, or call the UC Merced Police Department, 209-228-2677 (CAT-COPS) or 911, on weekends and holidays.
Evacuate the building if the fire alarm sounds and/or upon notification by the police.
A major power outage might not in itself be destructive, but if people panic or a fire breaks out, life and property can be in danger. Panic can be partially avoided by an immediate decision on the need to cancel classes or meetings in progress or to evacuate the building.
In laboratory buildings, fume hoods do not operate during a power outage and most laboratories should not be used until the ventilation is properly restored.
