Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs)
Be Ready to Save a Life
Sudden cardiac arrest can happen anywhere, at any time. AEDs are a critical livesaving tool designed to analyze heart rythms and deliver a shock only when necessary. At UC Merced, AEDs are located across campus to ensure rapid response in a cardiac emergency.
What is an AED?
An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable device that:
-
Analyzes a person’s heart rhythm
-
Determines if a shock is needed
-
Provides clear, step-by-step visual and voice instructions
-
Delivers a life-saving shock to restore normal heart rhythm
The device is designed to be user-friendly, with clear instructions on how to use it in case of an emergency. It's important for everyone to be aware of what an AED is and how to use it, as it could make a difference in saving someone's life.
Time is critical: Every minute counts, call 9-1-1/ UC Merced Police Dispatch (209-228-2677) immediately.
